The Late Show with David Letterman
- Oct. 29 – Nov. 1, 2002
On Oct. 29, 2002, David Letterman did a Top Ten list about jailed publicist Lizzie Grubman which included a punchline about Vassar. That clip is not here, but the list was written up the next morning in the Daily News. On the next night’s episode, as you can see from this transcript of the Oct. 30 show, he indicated he was going to start using the punchline (“What is this, Vassar?”) as a catchphrase he would occasionally drop, and he does in fact say it a few times that night. This continued at least through the rest of the week and a bit of the Nov. 1 show is captured below. Late Show episodes are surprisingly hard to find so please reach out if anyone has access to the archive.
